Windjammer Barefoot Cruises' S/V Flying Cloud at anchor in Great Harbor, Jost Van Dyke.

She sailed year round in the British Virgin Islands.  Now retired, Flying Cloud lies at dock in Port of Spain. Trinidad.

Flying Cloud's Ship's Bell -

Flying Cloud was launched in 1935. She was built as a training vessel for French naval cadets. Her name originally was "Oisseau des Iles" (Bird of the Islands). She was based in Tahiti and served with distinction during World War II.

Flying Cloud's perennial skipper was Captain Adrian Goldsborough. Here he briefs his department heads.

Foxy's Tamarind Bar on the beach on Jost Van Dyke gets rebuilt bigger and better after every hurricane. Here it is shortly after Hurricane Hugo in 1989.

"The Baths", on the shore of Virgin Gorda, is a natural formation of huge boulders which form interesting caves and grottos.

The Baths is a popular stopping place for yachtsmen and cruise passengers. The water is crystal clear and the snorkling is pretty good.

Caribbean Cruise Pictures The Sailing Vessel, Mandalay was launched in 1923. She was built for E.F. Hutton who named her Hussar. She was renamed Vema after she was sold in the 1930's.   In 1953 she was acquired by Columbia University who used her as a marine survey vessel.

Eventually Mandalay was retired by Columbia University and was brought into the Windjammer fleet in 1982. Currently in the Winter and Spring she sails six and thirteen day cruises in the Windwards and Leewards. In the Summer and Fall she sails the Venezuelan Coastal waters.

Here Mandalay receives supplies from Amazing Grace in the anchorage off Palm Island.
